Focus on Dementia

What is Dementia?

Dementia is not a single disease in itself, but a general term to describe various symptoms of cognitive decline such as memory loss or speaking difficulties. While some cognitive impairments, such as poorer short-term memory can be considered a normal side effect of aging, the symptoms of dementia are not. This is so, because dementia describes two or more types of symptoms that are severe enough to rapidly affect common daily life activities.

All dementias are neurodegenerativediseases which are caused by the progressive death of brain cells. It has been noticed in some cases that the symptoms of dementia have started after a brain injury, such as a stroke or a brain tumor.

In general, dementia can be seen as a brain disease that can affect different lobes. This will affect which of your abilities and skill will be affected. Dead tissues are stored in the different brain lobes until a proteinic plaques forms affecting the brain and leading to symptoms of cognitive decline.

How can Facial Reflex Therapy help?

While it is hardly impossible to revive dead brain cells, it is still possible to slow down the pace in which these cells die. By stimulating the right points, zones and nerves, you can help to balance out the body's chemicals and the production of the protein plaques stored in the brain. This is important because, by contributing to a more balanced production of chemicals and proteins, you contribute to slowing down - or even revert - some symptoms of dementia. The plaques formed in the brain during this disease appear thanks to an over-building of proteins and dead tissues. With Facial Reflex Therapy you can aid your body to balance the production of these proteins and help to slow down the appearance of new symptoms of cognitive decline.

Facial Reflex Therapy does not only help with balancing chemicals and proteins. In fact, when you are being treated with Facial Reflex Therapy you also improve the flow of energy and blood circulation, bringing balance into your body and promoting a healthy overall functioning.
